Gras: a Research & Development Framework for Grid and P2p Infrastructures

چکیده

Distributed service architectures are mandatory to handle the platform scale and dynamicity hindering the development of grid and P2P applications. These large-scaled distributed applications are difficult to design, develop and tune because of both theoretical and practical issues. This paper presents the GRAS framework that allows developers to first implement and experiment with such an infrastructure in simulation, benefiting from a controlled environment. The infrastructure can then be deployed in situ without code modification. We detail our design goals, and contrast them with the state of the art. We study the exchange of a message (from the Pastry protocol) using either GRAS or several other solutions. We quantify both the code complexity and the performance and find that GRAS performs better according to both metrics.

A practical example of convergence of P2P and grid computing: an evaluation of JXTA’s communication performance on grid networking infrastructures

As the size of today’s grid computing platforms increases, the need for self-organization and dynamic reconfiguration becomes more and more important. In this context, the convergence of grid computing and peer-to-peer (P2P) computing seems natural. However, grid infrastructures are generally available as a hierarchical federation of SAN-based clusters interconnected by high-bandwidth WANs. In ...

Implementing a Scientific Visualisation Capability within a Grid Enabled Component Framework (Research Note)

Collaborative scientific visualisation and computational steering are key enabling technologies within many e-science applications. Grid infrastructures provide an ideal environment for providing such a capability, and one approach is to use encapsulation within a Grid enabled component framework. This research note discusses the initial development of a collaborative visualisation component wi...

A Survey of Dynamic Replication Strategies for Improving Response Time in Data Grid Environment

Large-scale data management is a critical problem in a distributed system such as cloud,P2P system, World Wide Web (WWW), and Data Grid. One of the effective solutions is data replicationtechnique, which efficiently reduces the cost of communication and improves the data reliability andresponse time. Various replication methods can be proposed depending on when, where, and howreplicas are gener...
